Dignified Dhoni deserves respect

In the spirit of counter-intuitiveness that has seen a giant panda offered up as a candidate for woman of the year, a politician who does not believe in the concept of the United Kingdom as Briton of the year, step forward a man who is on a streak as cold as Hitler’s heart as this column’s Cricketer of the Year.

Only time will tell whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be able to stem the bleeding in Australia, and if India continue to take the kind of pummelling they took at the hands of Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting, even he may reach breaking point. But so far he has dealt with his team’s troubles in the same way as he did in England 2011; that is to say by snubbing his nose at triumph and adversity and treating them both with sweet indifference………
